Materials: Nylon rope, black paper
Ideas: I want to show life and growth on a background of darkness.
Processes: I separated strands from the rope and made it branch out in appropriate places.

Ideas: I want to illustrate the machine like operation of a brain. The organized inner design is like an engine running, while the outer chaos represents messy disorder. Processes: I used a string and needle to make the inner pattern, and larger cord to Materials: I used poster board to provide a clean, neat background, and neon cord to match the string.
As we discussed in the review, this isn't AP quality. The concept is good but I am not seeing research of other artists and examples of your inspiration or research. You have just given me simple drawings and then layed out rope out with bad lighting. So not AP Quality.
ReplyDeleteEach piece needs to be "hang on the wall over your couch" worthy. This is a great concept, really deep, but your NEXT piece needs to really be a culmination of all of these, overly simple, previous pieces leading up to it.
You can bring all three of these together with a large rope on a black surface, secure with the cement glue I gave you and make a piece that can actually be displayed on class night at your AP art show (with a rope border like before as your classmates suggested in our critique) and that would give the scorers the complicated, intricate work they need to see to justify these previous pieces.
I have graded leniently because I like your ideas that you tell me personally.
(I actually really am impressed with your idea of the intricate colored synapses coming out of this in an artistic way, using thread or colored wire. That is amazing!) But I am not seeing the follow through I keep hoping to see.
This needs to change going forward or we might need to rethink things. I am available and have sent you numerous ideas and artists and, hopefully, inspiration. I am not sure how to direct you better.
I want you to score well! I know you can, you have all you need before you, just do it!
By the way, I have asked you to work in class on an ongoing piece so that you always have something here to work on. You daily grade suffers when you do not bring something to work on or keep something here to work on (or screen shot your investigation process, etc., as you have verbally said you would do and have not.)
ReplyDeleteThis also has to change going forward. I want you to do well and spring is pretty packed with gathering 5 choice pieces to send, writing about the art for the Sustained Investigation part, and finishing your 15 pieces.
Again if this is too much for you, we need to discuss alternatives.
